  • Pontian is a district in southwest Johor.
  • Pontian in Malay language is called “Perhentian” means a stop
  • Pontian Kecil is situated 1.5 hours away (via bus) from Johor Bahru.
  • Pontian also is a seafood haven noted for its variety of seafood which is sold at a reasonable price.
  • A fishing village about 20 km from Pontian Kecil.


1. Kedai Mee Sin Kee


Kedai Mee Sin Kee is one of the best representatives of Pontian style wonton noodles. Whether you like ketchup or chili sauce, I think you'll be impressed by the new and refreshing full egg noodles. If you visit Pontian, remember to go to Kedai Mee Sin Kee and try the wonton noodle in Jalan Bakek Jaya Utama in your itinerary.




- Pontian wanton noodles is usually eaten with otak-otak.  Because the mildly spicy otak-otak is nice though not exceptionally meaty.

3. 18°C tea café


                        


18ºC is container cafe, they uses the latest rapid cooling machine technology in tea making. 18ºC remains fresh even after the drink is left in the refrigerator on the next day which shows the quality of their products which are preservative-free healthy drinks. They uses fresh ingredients such as passion fruit, lemon, lime and etc in the making of their drinks as well. Besides drinks, 18ºC also sell Taiwanese snacks, such as Taiwanese chicken chop, Taiwanese fried chicken, Taiwanese sweet potatoes with plum powder. The headquarter of 18ºC is at Pontian, Johor which was founded in the year 2010.

4. Kheng Guan Hiong Kopitiam



Kheng Guan Hiong Kopitiam has already been operating for 3 generations, located on the opposite of Pontian Market. The restaurant initially started out serving traditional black coffee, ‘but after some improvement,’ said the owner, he discarded the traditional ways – frying coffee beans with butter, and invented a whole new method to fry coffee beans, turning traditional coffee into white coffee. Regardless hot or cold, the aromatic coffee scent remains and paired along with either the choice of the owner’s homemade kaya or 2 soft-boiled eggs on the charcoal toasted bread would make the most classical breakfast choice.

5. Restaurant Mei Gui Seafood 



Mei Gui Restaurant opened with a history timeline of 30 years, the signature dish is Malaysian style Grilled Fish, and any kind of grilled seafood, the restaurant also provides with buffet service. The grilled fish must be eaten with their homemade special ‘Sambal'' and ’'Cincalok' sauces. However, it is advisable if you could make reservation first, because after 6.00 p.m the restaurant will be packed, you may need to expect to wait at least 30 minutes for your dishes to be served.

6. Kukup Island


Kukup island is a small fishing village in Pontian District, the place is famous for its open-air seafood restaurants built on the stilts over the water. The place is best known as Kukup as it is the first place in Malaysia that houses are built above the sea. Moreover, the place is enveloped by mangrove forests and many creatures can be found that you never seen before. The most common occupations the villagers are as fishermen, seafood restaurants and homestay. Therefore, seafood lovers may want to come here to enjoy a nice seafood during the weekend.
