Hello, Dear all!!! Welcome back to our Blog! In the last three weeks, we have introduced three states of Johor. This week, we will be introducing Kulai! Let us give you a simple briefing and information about Kulai:


  • Kulai is a town and located 29 km from Johor Bahru city and 8 km from Skudai, it is located in the center of district.
  • The main road is lined with many old retail shops and the town is surrounded by rubber and oil palm estates. 
  • The Chinese community in Kulai mainly speak 'Hakka' Chinese dialects.


1.  Restaurant Sze Hwa



The original Kulai style Bak Kut Teh  in Restaurant Sze Hwa, they have are excellent Malaysia style ‘Bak Kut Teh', the ingredients including intestines, kidney, liver, tails and liver are served instead of the standard pork ribs. The more important thing is they are cooked with soy sauce, so their Bak Kut Teh is not overly oily and fresh, meaty, but gives a slight herbal and garlicky taste.

- What is Bak Kut Teh?

Bak Kut Teh is a pork rib dish cooked in broth popularly served in Malaysia, and this is a predominant Hokkien  and Teochew community. This is typically Malaysian Chinese eaten for breakfast, but may also be served as lunch and dinner.

2.   Mok Gao - Beef/ Seafood/Pork Noodles Restaurant 


Mok Gao selling the delicious beef noodles in both Soup version and Dry version. But you need to be early for the beef noodles, because it was sold out before 8.00.am. For the beef noodles there are tender and rich in sweet, and you must try to mix his special chili sauce with noodles. They also have selling other things, such as Seafood and Pork Noodles.

  • Beef Noodles – Rm7.00 (small), Rm7.50 (middle), Rm8.00 (Big)

  • Pork Noodles – 4.30 a.m. – 3.00 p.m.
  • Beef Noodles - 4.30 a.m. – 11.00 a.m.

3. Kulai Big Tree Lei Cha/21km Lei Cha 

Lei Cha also can called thunder tea rice is a traditional soup that has been existing since the three kingdom. Lei Cha rice is a Hakka food, it was delicious and healthful. This restaurant is under a huge tree, therefore a lot of customer called as Big Tree Lei Cha. Lei Cha rice is the green tea is poured into the bowl of rice which is blanketed with a layer of stir fried long beans, leafy vegetables, preserved turnips, red beans, groundnuts and so on vegetables.

  • Lei Cha - Rm 5.00 
  • Yong TouFu sides [chilli, eggplant, bitter gourd, tofu] - Rm 1.50 per piece

4. Restoran Taiwanese GuoMa 


GuoMa steamboat is an economic buffet style restaurant. There's sliced beef, pork, mutton, and chicken. Seafood includes cuttlefish, squid, prawns, bamboo clams, fish etc. There were lots of vegetables and also noodles and so on. There are two type of soup base, which is Mala sauce and chicken soup in a 2-section pot. Moreover, they has a lots sauce to choices, especially their own Shacha sauce, and Lobak rice Unlimited supply.

5. Putuo Village – 普陀村



Putuo Village is a place in the south which practices Buddhism and Chinese culture, this is Buddhist temple, it is also a place where nature beauty. At here got the one Wishing Tree, to pursuit of happiness, dreams, and all the desires of your hearts will eventually be yours when you make a wish in this tree. On the other hand, be blessed at Chuk Yuen, you should not miss to go on a stroll at Chuk Yuen, ignite your Buddhism spirit by staying at the place to pray and recite scriptures.
